Academic Roots

ASC was founded out of the psychometrics PhD program at the University of Minnesota, the North Star State. David Weiss, Ph.D., and David Vale, Ph.D. – our founding fathers – were the pioneers of computerized adaptive testing (CAT) and the use of item response theory (IRT). Their passion and commitment to re-inventing how we do educational and workforce assessment led to extensive funding from the US government as part of their groundbreaking research on IRT/CAT at the University of Minnesota in the 1970s.

We continue to be driven by our academic roots, to help organizations around the world implement stronger psychometrics, making their tests fairer and more accurate. Our team represents our dedication, considering that we have more PhD psychometricians than companies 100x our size. We frequently hold thought leadership webinars, workshops, and speak at industry conferences.
